Day 1: PICK UP FROM THE AIRPORT AND VISIT THE WATER CIRCUIT
Upon arrival in Lima, the tour group will meet you at the scheduled time of your flight and guide you to your hotel. The capital of Peru is a modern metropolis with a long history and is currently undergoing various cultural and economic changes.
In the afternoon, after checking in at the hotel, you will take a brief tour of the city. Your journey begins with the Magic Water Circuit in Lima, a modern fountain system certified by the Guinness Book of Records as the largest modern fountain system in the world.
The Circuito Mágico del Agua Tour is located in the exhibition park and attracts crowds throughout the year, it is one of the most popular new attractions for tourists in Lima.
After the tour, head to a restaurant to enjoy a fantastic dinner with show, after which you will be sent back to the hotel for the night, where you can prepare for your flight to Cusco the next day. Overnight in Lima.
Day 2: FLIGHT TO CUSCO - CITY TOUR
After breakfast at the hotel, the transfer will pick you up from the reception to take you to the airport, where you will take your flight to Cusco (Flight not included). The flight must land in Cusco. After landing in the imperial city, you will be transferred to your hotel in Cusco.
In the afternoon, you can enjoy a guided tour of this charming city, once the capital of the Inca Empire. The tour begins with a visit to the Convent of Santo Domingo, which was built over the remains of the Inca Temple of Qoricancha, one of the most important areas dedicated to the worship of the sun. Ancient chronicles say that its walls were covered and filled with gold leaf representations of nature. Later, visit the cathedral, the most impressive monument of the main site of the city. Then go to the hills of Cusco, where the fort of Sacsayhuaman is located; its impressive walls offer a breathtaking panoramic view of Cusco. Night in Cusco
Day 3: CUSCO - SANTA MARIA (CYCLING OR CANOEING - OPTIONAL)
The guide will pick you up at your accommodation in Cusco early in the morning. We start the trip to Ollantaytambo where we will have breakfast then we will travel by bus to the highest place of the trip: Abra Malaga (4350 masl), next to the snowy Veronica to make the descent on bicycles to Huaman Marca – Santa Maria (1890 masl), finishing this activity we are ready to have a delicious lunch.
After a break, we will continue our adventure doing canoeing in the Urubamba River, not too dangerous, but not too boring either, perfect for having fun. Finishing this incredible activity we will have a short walk to Quellomayo, to a local house where we will enjoy dinner served by a native family who will offer us an experience with coffee and achiote.
Day 4: SANTA MARIA-SANTA TERESA (HIKE - COCALMAYO HOT SPRINGS)
After breakfast, we head to the Inca Trail where we start walking for approximately 4 hours through the high forest among the abundance of flora and fauna. In this area it is possible to see many types of plants, orchids, birds and other wild animals, a paradise of biodiversity in the Inca jungle. We will continue our hike along the Inca trail after lunch made by a local community with fruits and tubers native to the area.
The hot springs of Cocalmayo will be the trophy where we will relax and enjoy its soothing waters and then go to bed.
Day 5: SANTA TERESA - AGUAS CALIENTES (ZIPLINING AND HIKING)
The next morning; after a good breakfast, we start the hike from Hidroelectrica to Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu Pueblo). Along this flat trail you will find beautiful waterfalls, diversity of wildlife along the beautiful Urubamba River, following the hike we will arrive to a restaurant where we will enjoy a delicious lunch and take a short break.
This hike lasts about 3 hours; then upon arriving at our destination for the day, we will enjoy a great dinner where we will have an informative talk about our upcoming excursion to the citadel of Machu Picchu. Then you will have the night free to explore the town of Aguas Calientes.
If you like to feel pure adrenaline, in Santa Teresa we can take the zip line service, with six cables of 800 meters long approx. each reaching a maximum speed of 80 km / h, then we cross a suspension bridge and do a light rock climbing to finish this activity, the bus will take us to Hidroeléctrica where we will enjoy our lunch. We can relax here for a while, then continue the route to Aguas Calientes.
Optional: The zipline service is not included if you wish you can reserve it; do not miss this opportunity.
Day 6: AGUAS CALIENTES – MACHU PICCHU – CUSCO
The group will wake up early to go to Machu Picchu, following an ascending route through the high forest, where we will have the opportunity to see the sunrise.
The guide will show us the sanctuary of Machu Picchu for 2 hrs. approx. Afterwards the group will be free to enjoy Machu Picchu by themselves.
We return walking (3 hrs. 30 min. approx.) to Hidroeléctrica where our bus will be waiting for us until 3:00 pm to take us back to Cusco city, arriving around 10 pm.
Note: There is the possibility to spend one more night in Machu Picchu town paying US$ 30.00 extra, and return the next day (if you want to climb Huayna Picchu or Mountain paying an additional US$ 30.00) is a good idea because you will have an unforgettable experience.
Day 7: CUSCO - FLIGHT TO PUERTO MALDONADO
Today we get an early start for the flight via Cuzco to Puerto Maldonado, a small jungle town. After a short trip through the lodge office (where we will store our main luggage) to the river, we will take a boat to our jungle lodge in the Tambopata Reserve (usually between 1½ and 3 hours depending on the lodge used). On the way we will be able to see caimans (alligators), river turtles and a variety of birds.
Our jungle lodge is basic, but all accommodations have private bathrooms with cold water showers. Electricity is by generator and is only available for a few hours a day in the dining area.
Day 8: VISIT MACAW CLAY LICK
We will get up early (4:30 a.m.) and have a light coffee or tea to begin our 40-minute journey upriver towards the El Chuncho Macaw Clay Lick, in the Bahuaja-Sonene National Park. We will have the opportunity to enjoy beautiful natural settings and wildlife on the banks of the Tambopata River. Upon our arrival, weather conditions permitting, we will be able to observe one of the greatest spectacles of wildlife: hundreds of Parrots and Macaws of various species descending to feed on the mud of a ravine, an experience you will never forget!
Later, we will walk the river beach in search of animal tracks while we have a snack. At mid-morning, we will return to the Lodge to have breakfast and enjoy free time, either to rest, do adventure activities or enjoy the facilities and amenities that Wasaí offers.
We will cross the river by boat (10 minutes approx), to enjoy the Cascadas del Gato, and take a refreshing bath in a “natural Jacuzzi”. Optionally, we will try to fish for some of the more than 250 species of fish that inhabit the area or go kayaking or canoeing on the river.
After lunch, we will enter the jungle doing an Ethnobotanical walk through the Tambopata trails, learning about the medicinal plants and trees of the area, and observing the impressive ecosystem of the Amazon, where we can see walking palm trees, ancient lupunas (trees), snakes, etc.
At dusk, we will take a night boat ride in search of alligators. Dinner. Night at WASAI Tambopata Lodge (B, L, D).
Day 9: VISIT SANDOVAL LAKE
After breakfast we will start our return trip down the Tambopata River to WASAI Maldonado Ecolodge, where we will leave our luggage, have lunch and rest briefly. Then we will transfer again by boat for 30 minutes to Sandoval Lake. We will have a 3 km walk to the shores of the lake where we will board a canoe for a paddle tour, enjoying the beauty of the landscape and observing the wildlife of the lake, such as kingfishers, herons, monkeys, exotic birds…… with a little luck we will see the family of giant otters that inhabit the lake.
We will observe the transition from day to night, progressively the sounds of birds and daytime insects will give way to the sounds of the night. Then we will return to the Madre de Dios River and Puerto Maldonado. After dinner we can rest or stroll through the city on foot or by bicycle. Rest of the night free to enjoy the nightlife of this cozy city. Overnight at WASAI Maldonado Ecolodge (B, L, D)
Day 10: TRANSFER TO THE AIRPORT:
Farewell breakfast and free morning until transfer to the airport for flight to LIMA, ending this four-day jungle tour – Tambopata.
