INCA JUNGLE ITINERARY
Day 01: Cusco – Santa Teresa (Cycling and Rafting)
We begin our adventure early in the morning with a comfortable ride from Cusco. After about 3 hours driving through the beautiful Sacred Valley, we arrive at Abra Malaga Pass, a high mountain point at 4,350 meters (14,271 feet) above sea level. This is where the fun begins with a bike ride downhill all the way into the jungle.
After a safety briefing and putting on our gear, we hop on our bikes and begin the ride. Over the next 55 km, the landscape changes dramatically: from cold mountain air to the warm, misty climate of the cloud forest.
As we ride on, we pass small villages, waterfalls, and banana and coffee fields. The drive takes between 3.5 and 4 hours, and we will always have a support vehicle nearby in case someone needs it.
In the afternoon, we will stop for a well-deserved lunch in Santa Maria (1,200 m). Then, action on the river! We will practice canoeing on the Vilcanota River, paddling class II and III+ rapids surrounded by tropical landscapes. Whether it's your first time or you've done it before, it's safe, fun and all equipment is included.
In the afternoon, we will head to the relaxing hot springs of Cocalmayo, surrounded by the nature of the Vilcanota River. This is a great place to relax for about 2 hours and in the evening we will rest at the respective hotel in Santa Teresa.
Day 02: Santa Teresa – Aguas Calientes (Zipline and Hike)
After breakfast at the lodge, we will head to the zip line site, a short distance from our lodge. This is one of the highest and most exciting zip lines in South America.
You will fly across strong steel cables stretched between mountains, where you will be able to appreciate incredible views of the jungle, river and mountains. This activity is guided by a professional who will be with you all the time. We provide all the necessary equipment. It is an exciting and safe way to observe the area from the heights.
The activity includes three zip lines and a suspension bridge, covering about 3 kilometers in total:
- First line: 450 m
- Second line: 600 m
- Hanging bridge: 120 m with panoramic views
- Third line: 950 m
After the activity, we will take a short drive to Hidroeléctrica, where we will begin the final stretch of our journey on foot. We will follow a well-known trail along the train tracks and the Urubamba River, walking about 14 km (8.7 miles) to reach Aguas Calientes, the small village at the base of Machu Picchu.
This part of the hike is more relaxed, with plenty of time to enjoy the surrounding nature, listen to the sound of the river, and look out for native birds and plants. When we arrive, we will stay in a cozy lodge with private bathrooms and hot showers. In the evening, we will enjoy dinner at a local restaurant and meet our guide for a briefing on tomorrow's big visit to Machu Picchu.
Day 03: Machu Picchu – Cusco
We will get up early and take the bus from Aguas Calientes to Machu Picchu in the cooler air and soft morning light.
Your guide will show you around for about 2 to 3 hours (this is in case we book Circuit 2), telling you the history and anecdotes of the important places you visit, such as the Main Square, the Temple of the Sun, the Intihuatana Stone and the Sacred Rock.
After the tour, you will have free time to walk around, take pictures or simply enjoy the incredible views. Later, we will take the bus back to Aguas Calientes, where you can have lunch before taking the train to Ollantaytambo. From there, a private transfer will take you back to Cusco, arriving in the evening with incredible memories of your trip.
