DAY 17: TAMBOPATA – CHUNCHO MACAW CLAY LICK – ETHNOBOTANICAL WALK – NIGHT CAIMAN SPOTTING
Early in the morning, just before sunrise, we board a boat for a 1.5-hour journey to the Chuncho Macaw Clay Lick, one of the most impressive natural spectacles in the Amazon. Along the way, enjoy breathtaking river scenery and watch for wildlife along the riverbanks.
Upon arrival at the clay lick, we’ll enjoy breakfast on site while waiting for the arrival of parrots and macaws, who come to feed on the mineral-rich clay. It’s an unforgettable sight as the sky fills with color and sound.
By mid-morning, we return to the lodge for a rest and time to relax. Those who wish may take a dip in the Tambopata River or try their luck fishing—there are over 250 species of fish in the area.
After lunch, we embark on an ethnobotanical walk along the trails of Tambopata, learning about medicinal plants and trees used by local communities, and observing the complexity of the Amazon ecosystem. You’ll discover fascinating species such as walking palms, centuries-old lupuna trees, hollow giants, and more.
As night falls, we set out on a nocturnal boat excursion in search of caimans. This is the best time to spot them, as their eyes reflect light in the dark, revealing their presence along the riverbanks.
Day 18: TAMBOPATA – KAYAKING – AMAZON ADVENTURE PARK
Sunrise at the lodge is a symphony of colors and sounds, as dozens of exotic birds greet the morning. After breakfast, your guide will provide a brief orientation and basic paddling instruction before we set out on our kayaking adventure. The excursion is conducted downstream along the Tambopata River, accompanied by a support motorboat that follows at a safe distance for assistance. This calm and scenic journey is suitable for all fitness levels and offers great opportunities to spot birds and wildlife along the riverbanks.
We’ll reach a natural beach, where there will be time for a refreshing swim in the river, surrounded by the pristine Amazon environment. Afterwards, we’ll return to the lodge to enjoy a relaxing lunch.
In the afternoon, after a short rest, we’ll head out on a brief jungle walk leading to the Amazon Adventure Park, where you’ll take part in fun treetop activities. We recommend dressing in layers
Do I need to be in good physical condition to complete the full tour?
In general, the tour is suitable for people with moderate physical fitness. Some walks at high altitude (like in Cusco or Puno) or in the jungle require effort, but are done at a relaxed pace with breaks. The pace is always adapted to the group.

The itinerary is designed for a gradual ascent. We also provide recommendations and rest periods to help prevent altitude sickness, as well as coca tea and oxygen if needed.

In cities like Lima, Arequipa, Cusco, and Puno, there is good internet access. In rural areas or the Amazon (Puerto Maldonado), the internet may be limited or unavailable—part of the experience of disconnecting from daily life.
