The Inca Trail to Machu Picchu is one of the best hikes in the world because of the exquisite beauty of its natural surroundings. The Inca paths takes us through different ecosystems from high Andean plains to the cloud forest allowing us to explore mysterious archaeological sites, half covered with jungle overgrowth that looks as if we were discovering them for the first time. The trek finishes with the inspiring sight of the sunrise at the Machu Picchu marvel.
INCA TRAIL DETAILS
Below you will find details of the classic Inca Trail. The itinerary describes the activities day by day of this fascinating walking route that goes through the mountains above the Urubamba river, following the course of an old inca roadway leading to the ancient city of Machu Picchu. This tour, in the high season, tends to be overcrowded and for those wanting to walk in a less travelled road we suggest the Inca Jungle or Salkantay trek.
DAY 1: CUSCO – HUAYLLABAMBA
In the first day of the inca trail, around 7.00 am. we will pick you up at your hotel, and then departure towards the Km. 82 where starts the inca trail, after passing the control entrance we will walk for 3 hrs. and along the way we will have the chance to see different archeological remains until arriving at the ancient complex of Llactapata. Near this area the group will have lunch, and then we continue the trek for 30 min. aprox. to finally reach the area of Huayllabamba, an isolated andean community where some of our porters came from. Around 5.30 aprox. we will set up our camp site. And around 7 pm. we will enjoy our dinner.

DAY 2: HUAYLLABAMBA – WARMIWAÑUSCA – PACAYMAYO
Surrounded by birds in the middle of nature will be the perfect scenario to enjoy of our breakfast early in the morning, after that we will continue along the inca trail ascending during 4 hrs. aprox. to the highest point, (Warmiwañusca 4,200 m.a.s.l.), where you will have an unbelievable panoramic view and will have the chance to observe different types of ecosystems that go from the dry puna to the high tropical forest. Around 2 pm. after lunch the group will start to descend into the Pacaymayo valley, this trek can lasts around 3 hrs. and along the way down we are going to go through rocky steps, tunnels and wooden bridges. We will camp at the bottom of the pass near the river.

DAY 3: PACAYMAYO – PUYAPATAMARKA – WIÑAYHUAYNA
After breakfast we will continue descending for 45 min. aprox., along the way we will explore the archaeological complex of Runkurakay and the Inca citadel of Sayacmarca. Later we head towards Puya Patamarka (Cloud-level town). Then a delicious lunch will be served, and after a short break the group will continue walking for 2 hrs. until arriving at Wiñay Huayna (Forever Young), an impressive archaeological complex. Then our team is going to set our camp up, around 7 pm. we’ll have a hearthly dinner. Hopefully we will have the chance to see an amazing sky full of starts giving a special touch to the inca trail.

DAY 4: WIÑAYHUAYNA – MACHU PICCHU – CUSCO
Around 5 am., in the last day of the inca trail, we will have breakfast and then will start our last journey, After 1 hr. walking up through the high forest, we are going to reach the Inti Punku or the Gate of the Sun, also known as the entrance gate to Machu Picchu, where you will have the most impressive panoramic view of the citadel and hopefully we could see the sunrise. Upon arrival at Machu Picchu, we will have 2 hrs. of guided tour, visiting the main sites and monuments. After the tour you will have free time to wander around, having on mind the schedule of your train ticket. Later you will walk down towards to Aguas Calientes, remember to be at the train station at least 30 min. before departure and then you will travel by train around 1.45 hrs. until getting the town Ollantaytambo where our private bus will transfer us to Cusco. End of our journey in the plaza de armas.
